Writing takes persistence and vision — and yet it can be impossible to get a perspective on your own writing, especially when you have revised a line, scene, chapter, section, essay introduction, entire novel, fifteen or a thousand times. I offer services in mentoring, coaching, structural editing and manuscript assessment in genres including literary fiction, creative nonfiction, and genre fiction (SF, fantasy, mystery) as well as academic writing support for students. Whether you need feedback on how to create an opening chapter that draws the reader in, bring some shape to your story, organize your ideas in an essay, or perfect a compelling synopsis, I can provide advice tailored to what you need to feel a sense of confidence in your writing, drawing on thirty years of experience in the literary world.

I work with authors of all levels of experience to develop your original voice and build on existing strengths, with respect for your unique goals, vision, and aspirations.

My unique blend of experience ranges from agenting and publishing, academia, journalism, teaching and my own work as an author of internationally acclaimed fiction and non-fiction. I have mentored authors and taught creative writing and literary studies around the world at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Copenhagen, the University of Technology, Sydney, and the New South Wales Writers Centre, and other workshop settings.

I offer specialized support for students in high school or university working on college essays or seeking help with academic writing and executive functioning, from college essays to strategies for successful reading and studying techniques.
